Tom Marsh - First Selectman

Tom Marsh brings a well rounded background to the 2007 campaign. He served on the Board of Finance during the mid nineties and on the Board of Education and the Municipal Economic Development Commission before becoming First Selectman in 2005. His experience in town government has given him a clear overview of how various budgets function and how town government is intended to operate. And his track record of success over the last two years speaks for itself.

As a small business owner he understands the importance of setting objectives, developing plans to meet those objectives - and doing it with the resources available. Tom holds a B.S.B.A. in Business Administration and a M.B.A. in Marketing.

The Marsh family has lived in Chester since 1989 and is grounded in the community. Tom and his wife Kathy have three children. Their eldest attends college, the two younger children are enrolled in the tri-town regional public school system. His business office is located in town.

Tom is a property owner and pays Chester taxes for both his home and his business. While 18 years of residency may not qualify for status as "locals" Tom and his family appreciate the sense of community that is evidenced in Chester’s history. It is their hope that 50 years from now Chester residents will still be able to look back on the town with the same fondness exhibited by "locals" today through their family histories and stories of life in town.
