Accomplishments

Significant accomplishments have been achieved through effective leadership and the hard work of town boards and commissions. Help keep the momentum going.

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Decreased spending -Town operating budget is $158,00 LOWER today than it was 2 years ago
  • Worked with local and regional school boards to contain costs
  • Improved budgeting to accurately reflect revenue and expenses
  • Developed a practical solution to the Wig Hill bridge problem
  • Attained prudent state grant funding for a variety of town programs, while rejecting funding containing costly state imposed mandates

Environment

  • Enrolled Chester as the 25th town (out of 169) in the Connecticut Clean Energy Program
  • Contracted to purchase 20% of municipal electricity from renewable sources (well ahead of 2010 goal!)
  • Instituted Earth Day town wide litter pick-up
  • Developed an environmentally responsible, fiscally sound solution to our 17-year village septic pollution problem
  • Developed a plan incorporating the use of bio-diesel fuel for town vehicles

Planning

  • Incorporated a comprehensive process in the creation of the Plan of Conservation and Development (two years in development and expected to be brought to public hearing in early 2008)
  • Increased involvement of boards and commissions in the planning process
  • Expanded town Emergency Preparedness programs

Communication

  • Increased communication between boards
  • Increased participation in the town email list
  • Incorporated new signage to promote events
  • Improved the Town website
  • Held community forms to discuss town services
